Michael Kisambira

Michael Kisambira is a skilled wood and metal sculptor and jeweler. Using his media, he aims to celebrate Basoga culture and find ways to mine and preserve Basoga practice, particularly in the field of instrument making.

His residency has been one of discovery. He has been travelling back to the Basoga region and speaking with cultural custodians to gain an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of making these instruments as well as the meanings, processes and uses behind them. After his residency, he plans to use this information to create work in his own studio and share with the group of people he is currently working with.
