KLA ART Labs Open Call
KLA ART Labs is an immersive experiential program designed to provide creative professionals with the tools and opportunities for in-depth research and critical thinking through public practice. Lab participants are invited to investigate alternative practices and processes through experience-based collaborative learning.
Our new expanded edition of the Labs is a 9 month program that leads up to the next edition of the public arts festival KLA ART in 2020. The program is an initiative of 32° East, with support from the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development, Newcastle University and Arts Collaboratory.
About the KLA ART Labs
From July 2019 to March 2020, lab participants/investigators will explore new ways of working through the following lab sessions
-
- Concept Development and Research
-
- Making Things Public
Investigators will also have several opportunities for practical experience through residencies and KLA ART 2020. For each of the lab sessions, they will be joined by members from 32° East’s networks. These network investigators will be invited to share their process and facilitate moments of un-learning, co-creation, self-reflection and new ways of working. Between the lab sessions, investigators will also have the opportunity to explore their concepts during residencies with our network partners.
Eligibility
By terming participants as investigators, the program intends to encourage exploration and experimentation, particularly between disciplines. The labs are therefore open to a wide range of creative professionals – artists, writers, researchers, curators, educators, producers, programmers, activists, collectives, etc.
Only applicants residing in Uganda will be eligible for this programme.
Programme Outline
Each lab will begin with guests from our network giving us a window into their process and methodology, encouraging new possibilities for practice in the city. For the subsequent weeks participants will experiment with these alternative methodologies towards a defined result. Every session will provide several practical experiences for participants to expand their knowledge and skills, including publishing and international residency opportunities.
The program provides –
- A work budget
- Professional development
